CNN —Tank Dell, a wide receiver for the NFL’s Houston Texans, was injured Sunday during a shooting in Sanford, Florida, the team has confirmed. Dell, 24, is in good spirits after he sustained minor injuries from the shooting, the team said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. At least 10 people were injured in the shooting and were taken to the hospital. Dell is from Daytona Beach, Florida, according to the NFL. Daytona Beach is about 40 miles from Sanford.

APOPKA, Fla. (AP) — An 11-year-old who is accused of taking a gun from his mother's vehicle and shooting two teens following an argument at football practice will remain in custody for three more weeks, a judge in Florida ruled Wednesday. The child began sobbing after the judge ruled against a request for home detention, Orlando television stations reported. But he told WESH-TV in Orlando that the shooting stemmed from bullying, a scenario supported by a police report. Surveillance video showed one of the victims chasing the 11-year-old before the shooting, according to an arrest affidavit. The mother told detectives she didn't see her son grab the gun, which she said had been stored in a gun box underneath the front passenger seat.

Data from the Florida Museum's International Shark Attack File (ISAF), which describes itself as "the world's only scientifically documented, comprehensive database of all known shark attacks," shows that Florida is the global leader in shark attacks, with 259 from 2012 to 2021, well ahead of Australia in second place. But it is in Volusia County — which includes the renowned Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach — on Florida's east coast that has been dubbed the "shark bite capital of the world." The sharks that hunt the waters of Volusia County and are mostly involved in biting incidents include Blacktip, Bull, and Requiem sharks.

CNN —A bear that prompted partial closures at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom on Monday was captured without incident and is being relocated, according to a news release from Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Nearly a dozen attractions were closed on Monday at the time authorities were trying to locate the bear at Magic Kingdom, according to the My Disney Experience app. WESHIt was not clear if the closures, or how many, were related to the bear sighting. CNN has reached out to Disney for more details about specific closures but has not heard back yet. There are three other major parks at the resort: EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

A Florida principal resigned after writing a $100,000 check using the school's money to a scammer impersonating Elon Musk. Jan McGee said she believed Musk would invest millions in Burns Sci Tech in exchange for $100,000 upfront. Dr. Jan McGee was the principal of Burns Science and Technology Charter School in Oak Hill, Florida, since the school opened in 2011. Although other school staff warned her the person was a scammer, McGee had talked with the person for at least four months, according to WESH. The school and McGee did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A three-vehicle collision on a central Florida highway Wednesday morning resulted in one death and 16 injuries, authorities said. The crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. on State Route 60 in Osceola County, according to the Osceola County Fire Rescue and EMS and a department spokesperson. “The crash involved a semi, transit bus, and pickup truck. A highway crash in Florida on Sept. 21, 2022, resulted in one death and 14 injuries, most were not life-threatening, officials said. Sullivan said the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
